The project for two four-story urban villas aims to provide comfortable and contemporary suburban living in a new development area in Weil am Rhein. The two buildings are positioned in the already established urban grid, yet they strive to stand out as individual solitaires – to mark and complement the eastern beginning of the new “Hohe Straße”.
With their 13 apartments of different sizes and layouts, the urban villas offer a variety of living options. The apartments are organized around a central vertical core and can flexibly be adapted to future needs. Floor-to-ceiling windows and generous balconies strive to connect the living space with the surrounding landscape. The open design and the tranquillity of the surrounding green spaces, with discontinued and staggered hedges, creates an open garden city atmosphere while maintaining a sense of privacy.
The horizontal structure of the facades is achieved through the alternation between rough and fine plaster in an attempt to give the building a timeless architectural appearance. Their rotating facades mirror the idea behind the central vertical core, around which the living areas revolve. Their elegance is further enhanced by the continuous metal strips that capture and reflect the daylight.
